UAE Launches Montaji+: New Digital Platform to Trace Food Sources and Ensure Ethical Sourcing

Unveiled at the 30th edition of Gulfood 2025, Montaji+ is still in its testing phase but is expected to streamline food safety and product registration processes through the integration of artificial intelligence (AI)

Dubai: Consumers in the UAE will soon have access to a revolutionary digital platform that enables them to trace the origins of their food products and verify whether they are ethically sourced.

The new system, Montaji+, will provide vital information such as a product’s manufacturer location and carbon footprint, according to a Dubai Municipality (DM) spokesperson.

Unveiled at the 30th edition of Gulfood 2025, Montaji+ is still in its testing phase but is expected to streamline food safety and product registration processes through the integration of artificial intelligence (AI).

The platform will consolidate previous systems, including the DM Smart Inspection System and the permit system, making it easier for businesses and regulatory bodies to track food safety standards and compliance.

AI-Powered Registration for Faster Approvals

Traditionally, registering a new food product required companies to manually input extensive details and fill out forms.

However, Montaji+ simplifies this process by allowing companies to upload an image of the product, with AI automatically filling in the required information within a short period of time.

This not only speeds up approvals but also reduces human error in data entry, ensuring more accurate records.

Sultan Al Taher, Director of the Food Safety Department at Dubai Municipality, emphasized the efficiency of the new system, stating, “Our role here is to direct [companies], provide them with the necessary requirements and with the required standards and specifications to record their products.”

Streamlining Restaurant Registration

In addition to product registration, Montaji+ will also facilitate the licensing process for restaurants. Business owners can register their establishments by simply submitting their details and uploading a blueprint of their restaurant layout.

Previously, this process involved extensive back-and-forth communication via email, causing delays in approvals. With Montaji+, restaurant registrations are expected to become much more efficient and hassle-free.

Incentives for Trusted Companies

As part of Dubai Municipality’s broader food safety initiatives, the platform will also introduce the ‘Green Channel’ initiative.

Companies that maintain a consistent track record of high-quality food products without complaints or safety violations will benefit from expedited approvals.

Under this initiative, eligible products can be sent directly to the market without undergoing inspection, reducing delays and facilitating smoother business operations.

Enhancing Consumer Confidence and Sustainability

Montaji+ is expected to enhance consumer confidence by providing greater transparency on food sourcing. Customers will be able to check vital product details, including ethical sourcing certifications and environmental impact metrics.

This aligns with the UAE’s broader sustainability goals, as the country continues to implement digital solutions to ensure food safety and environmental responsibility.

Dubai Municipality’s commitment to leveraging AI and digital platforms like Montaji+ marks a significant step towards creating a more transparent, efficient, and sustainable food industry.

As the platform undergoes final testing and refinements, consumers and businesses alike can look forward to a future where food safety and ethical sourcing are more accessible and verifiable than ever before.
