UAE Schools Enhance Weather Preparedness with Strong Parent Communication Measures

Schools across the UAE are implementing advanced weather response systems, focusing on student safety, real-time parent communication, and proactive monitoring to ensure minimal disruption during adverse weather

Schools across the UAE are bolstering their preparedness for adverse weather while strengthening communication systems to ensure parents remain informed and reassured.

From fog and heavy rain to dust storms, education authorities emphasize student safety, transparency, and rapid responses. Schools are required to follow the Emergency Preparedness and Response Policy, which mandates proactive monitoring of weather alerts, structured communication, and alignment with government guidelines.

Vigilance in Abu Dhabi

In Abu Dhabi, Shining Star International School has implemented a comprehensive response plan tailored to the emirate’s conditions.

Om Prakash Prasad, Operations Head, explained that decisions are made within minutes of weather warnings. “As soon as forecasts are issued, our emergency communication plan is activated. This includes coordination with ADEK, timely updates to parents, and safe adjustments to transport schedules.”

He noted that buses are delayed until visibility is safe, outdoor activities suspended during dust storms, and ventilation carefully managed indoors. Parents are alerted in real time via the Salama app, SMS, emails, and a dedicated parent portal.

Proactive Monitoring in Dubai

In Dubai, schools adopt similar strategies, working with KHDA, the Roads and Transport Authority, and Dubai Police.

Chitra Sharma, Principal of JSS Private School, said early monitoring helps them act proactively. “We can anticipate risks and respond swiftly—whether declaring online learning, delaying start times, or modifying transport schedules. Maintenance teams also secure facilities against rain or storms.”

She stressed that clear and immediate updates help parents plan with confidence while ensuring student safety remains the top priority.

Standardised Protocols Across Groups

School groups are also unifying their policies to ensure consistency. Noufal Ahmed, Founder and Managing Director of Woodlem Education, said all campuses follow structured protocols.

“We coordinate with transport providers and authorities, adjust bus timings, and keep students indoors when conditions worsen. Parents are notified instantly via SMS, email, apps, and social media.”

Ahmed added that staff members are assigned specific roles to ensure smooth execution of emergency measures across schools.

A Shared Commitment

Across the Emirates, schools agree that transparent communication, strict adherence to weather guidelines, and swift decision-making are key.

Whether through adjusted transport, supervised indoor activities, or online classes, the shared goal is clear: parents should never be caught off guard, and students must always remain safe during unpredictable weather.
