Abu Dhabi Launches First Vertiport and Self-Driving Drone Tests to Revolutionize Sustainable Transport

The innovative project aims to facilitate the operation of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, offering both passenger and logistics services while enhancing the emirate's tourism sector

Abu Dhabi is set to make significant strides in sustainable transportation with the launch of the UAE’s first trial vertiport by The Advanced Mobility Hub (AMH), a subsidiary of Multi Level Group.

This innovative project aims to facilitate the operation of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, offering both passenger and logistics services while enhancing the emirate’s tourism sector.

As part of this initiative, AMH will conduct its inaugural self-driving drone test at the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal in Port Zayed, following an agreement with the Abu Dhabi Ports Group.

This collaborative effort emphasizes the emirate’s commitment to sustainable transport solutions, showcasing the potential for eVTOL and autonomous aircraft that can accommodate between two to five passengers.

Mohamed Salah, CEO of Multi Level Group, expressed the vision behind the project, stating, “This plan aims to enrich the experience of cruise passengers and contribute to enhancing tourism activities in the UAE, by providing air tours to see the tourist attractions in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.”

He further noted that the initiative would support the increase of tourist nights and foster additional sustainable and non-polluting activities within the region.

The agreement involves key stakeholders, including ADNOC, AD Ports Group, Multi Level Group, and e&, who will explore the application of eVTOLs for cargo operations.

This focus on enhancing efficiency aims to reduce operational costs and carbon emissions within the petroleum services sector, addressing transportation and logistics needs on both land and sea.

Collaboration will be at the forefront of this initiative, with the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal partnering with various entities to ensure logistical support and infrastructure readiness. Multi Level Group’s subsidiaries will oversee operations under the AMH umbrella.

These include Wings Logistics, which will provide drone services for both passenger and cargo transportation, and Space Falcon, dedicated to drone surveillance for specialized missions like firefighting and inspections.

To further enhance the operational capabilities, Multi Level Group’s Vertihub and its subsidiary Unified Aviation will handle infrastructure operations and port audits, offering essential ground support and operational services for airports.

Additionally, Connected Vehicles for Charging Points will deliver smart charging services for connected vehicles.

Education and training will also play a critical role in this initiative. The Emirates Academy for Training and Education Programs will implement training programs designed to elevate national knowledge and expertise in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).

Moreover, the UAE Ambassadors programme aims to nurture skills in specialized and innovative industries, enhancing opportunities for Emirati students through Multi Level Group’s partnership with the College of Technology and Higher Education.

This collaboration seeks to equip UAE nationals with advanced technological skills, fostering local expertise in the rapidly evolving field of drone logistics.

The introduction of a vertiport and self-driving drone technology marks a pivotal moment for Abu Dhabi as it embraces advanced mobility solutions.

By prioritizing sustainability and innovation, the emirate is not only enhancing its transportation infrastructure but also positioning itself as a leader in the global shift towards eco-friendly travel options.

As these initiatives take flight, they promise to transform the landscape of air travel and logistics in the UAE, paving the way for a more sustainable future.
