Abu Dhabi Launches ‘My Clean Vehicle’ Campaign to Tackle Abandoned Cars

The campaign, spearheaded by the Abu Dhabi City Municipality, not only seeks to identify and issue warnings to vehicle owners but also aims to educate the community about the importance of maintaining the city’s aesthetics and fostering a culture of social responsibility

Abu Dhabi authorities have launched a five-day initiative titled “My Clean Vehicle” aimed at addressing the issue of abandoned vehicles across the city.

The campaign, spearheaded by the Abu Dhabi City Municipality, not only seeks to identify and issue warnings to vehicle owners but also aims to educate the community about the importance of maintaining the city’s aesthetics and fostering a culture of social responsibility.

During the campaign, inspectors from the municipality were deployed to various neighborhoods to locate vehicles that have been left unattended or are covered in dust.

Owners of these abandoned vehicles received official warnings, emphasizing that abandoning a vehicle is a violation of local regulations that could lead to a fine of up to Dh3,000 and the potential confiscation of the vehicle.

Municipality officials highlighted the campaign’s dual focus on enforcement and education. They aim to not only penalize offenders but also to enlighten residents about the broader implications of vehicle abandonment on the community.

“Abandoning vehicles not only detracts from the beauty of our city but also encourages negative behaviors that can affect community pride,” said a municipality spokesperson. “Our goal is to instill a sense of responsibility among vehicle owners to keep Abu Dhabi clean and appealing.”

The “My Clean Vehicle” campaign aligns with the municipality’s broader efforts to enhance the beauty of residential areas and create a healthier environment for all residents.

Inspectors took the opportunity to engage with vehicle owners, discussing how abandoned vehicles can distort the image of neighborhoods and negatively impact the overall quality of life.

In addition to addressing abandoned vehicles, the campaign provided guidance on proper vehicle maintenance and the importance of regular cleaning to prevent dust accumulation. Municipality representatives stressed that a clean vehicle reflects a clean city, and every resident has a role to play in this collective effort.

“We encourage our residents to take pride in their surroundings and contribute to the preservation of our city’s beauty,” the spokesperson added.

The initiative also serves as a reminder of the legal repercussions tied to neglecting vehicle ownership responsibilities. Under local laws, vehicle owners are required to ensure that their vehicles are operational and parked in designated areas.

Failure to comply can lead to significant fines and administrative actions, including the removal of the vehicle at the owner’s expense.

Community feedback on the campaign has been largely positive, with many residents appreciating the educational aspect of the initiative.

“It’s important for all of us to understand how our actions can affect our environment,” said Ahmed Al Farsi, a local resident. “This campaign is a great reminder that we each have a role in keeping our neighborhoods clean.”

As the campaign concluded, the municipality indicated that follow-up measures would be implemented to ensure continued compliance among vehicle owners.

Ongoing awareness programs are planned to maintain momentum and encourage positive behaviors regarding vehicle ownership and community responsibility.

The “My Clean Vehicle” campaign reflects Abu Dhabi’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement, ensuring that the city remains a clean, vibrant, and aesthetically pleasing place for all residents and visitors.
