Dubai International Airport Restricts Access to Passengers Only During Peak Travel Periods

The decision coincides with a four-day break for UAE residents from June 15 to 18, marking the Islamic festival of Eid Al Adha. Following this, schools in the UAE will close for a two-month summer vacation, further contributing to the high volume of travelers

Dubai International Airport (DXB) has announced that only passengers will be allowed inside its terminals during peak periods this summer, urging travelers to bid farewell to loved ones at home.

This measure is part of the airport’s strategy to manage the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the busy travel season.

In an advisory issued ahead of the summer travel rush, DXB stated that access to the arrivals forecourts at Terminals 1 and 3 would be limited to public transport and authorized airport vehicles only.

This move aims to streamline operations and ensure a smoother experience for travelers during the upcoming peak periods.

The decision coincides with a four-day break for UAE residents from June 15 to 18, marking the Islamic festival of Eid Al Adha. Following this, schools in the UAE will close for a two-month summer vacation, further contributing to the high volume of travelers.

DXB is preparing to welcome over 3.7 million guests from June 12 to 25, with daily traffic expected to average 264,000 passengers. The busiest day is anticipated to be June 22, with guest numbers likely to exceed 287,000.

To manage this influx, DXB has issued several travel tips for passengers:

  1. Arrival Timing:
    • Flydubai passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least four hours prior to departure.
    • Emirates passengers should utilize the airline’s home-, early-, and self-check-in facilities, including city check-in options.
    • Passengers flying with other airlines should aim to arrive no earlier than three hours before their scheduled departure time and make use of online check-in where available.
  2. Baggage and Security:
    • Passengers should familiarize themselves with their airline’s baggage allowance and packing regulations to avoid any last-minute surprises.
    • At security screening, it is recommended to place metal items such as watches, jewelry, mobile phones, coins, and belts in hand luggage to expedite the process. Additionally, travelers should follow the guidelines for carrying liquids, aerosols, and gels.
  3. Passport Control:
    • Families with children over 12 years old can expedite the passport control process by using the Smart Gates available at the airport.
  4. Travel Preparedness:
    • Travelers should keep abreast of the latest travel regulations for their destinations and ensure they have all necessary documents ready.
    • Organizing travel documents in advance and weighing luggage at home can help avoid delays and streamline the journey.
    • Packing spare batteries and power banks in hand luggage is recommended for convenience.
  5. Transportation:
    • To avoid road congestion, passengers are encouraged to use the Dubai Metro to get to and from the airport and between Terminals 1 and 3.

These measures and recommendations are part of DXB’s efforts to ensure a smooth and efficient travel experience for the millions of passengers expected this summer.

By restricting terminal access to passengers only and providing clear guidelines, Dubai International Airport aims to manage the peak travel periods effectively and minimize any potential disruptions.

As the summer travel season kicks off, DXB continues to prioritize the safety and convenience of its guests, reinforcing its position as one of the world’s leading international airports.
