Emirati Woman’s Motorcycle Journeys from Dubai to Iraq Inspire Self-Discovery

Emirati motorcyclist Fatima Al Loghani journeys across the Middle East and Europe, combining solo travel, cultural discovery, and personal reflection to represent UAE identity and inspire women globally

At 46, Emirati adventurer Fatima Al Loghani embarked on a remarkable journey that began with an eight-day motorcycle ride from Dubai to Iraq. It was neither for leisure nor work, but a mission of self-discovery and cultural representation.

A mother of two daughters aged 17 and 13, Al Loghani reflected on her life and realised she had long neglected her own dreams. “I’ve given so much to others, but I’ve given myself nothing,” she told Khaleej Times. A childhood wish to ride a motorcycle became her path to rediscovering herself.

Her first journey spanned Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq. From there, she continued to Croatia via Turkey and Serbia, embracing both the physical challenge and the cultural knowledge gained along the way. Later, she explored the Balkans, Italy, and Germany, each trip offering breathtaking scenery and profound personal lessons.

“Every journey had a highlight,” she said. “The first was about self-discovery, the second about connecting with people, and the third made me realise that I wasn’t travelling alone — the entire UAE was with me.”

Raised in a family of 21 siblings in Sharjah, Al Loghani distinguished herself academically and pursued a career in Information Technology within the oil sector. Her Danish husband, she noted, played a vital role in encouraging her ambitions and independence.

One defining moment came when her daughter told her, “Mom, I am so proud of you,” after sharing her mother’s journey with friends. Al Loghani described the comment as a source of immense comfort and joy.

Travelling alone, she maintained strict boundaries, seeking solitude rather than companionship. “On the road, I lived in a silent conversation between me and my God,” she explained. Careful daily planning ensured she avoided riding after dark.

Her journeys were not without obstacles, including frequent stops at checkpoints. Yet she believes Emirati women’s freedom must be balanced with awareness and principles. “We stand on our morals and represent our country,” she emphasised.

Beyond her adventures, Al Loghani founded “Born 2 Localize,” a company dedicated to employing Emiratis in roles that match their skills and aspirations.

Although she admits she is unsure of her ultimate goal, the peace she finds in motorcycling and solitary travel continues to drive her forward. “This is what keeps me going,” she said.

Her story stands as an inspiring testament to following one’s dreams, embracing challenges, and carrying the spirit of one’s homeland wherever the road leads.
