Iraq: Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani talks to Foreign Secretary of the UK

Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani, on the 26th of October 2023, received a phone call from James Cleverly,  the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom. During the phone talk, both of them discussed many issues of mutual interest and also deliberated on bilateral relations between the two nations. The discussion also covers the recent regional developments, with a particular focus on the Middle East conflict of the Israel-Hamas war.

During the phone talk, both of them discussed many issues of mutual interest and also deliberated on bilateral relations between the two nations. The discussion also covers the recent regional developments, with a particular focus on the Middle East conflict of the Israel-Hamas war.

Prime Minister Al-Sudani stressed that there is a huge responsibility on the shoulders of permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council. He further underscored the crucial role of the international community as a whole in putting an end to the violence, aggression, and violations carried out by the Zionist entity against the Palestinian people.

He also underscored the necessity of preventing the escalation of conflict in another part of the Middle East and warfare in other areas in the region. The Prime Minister  also emphasized that if immediate efforts were not taken to stop the war, it could spill into another part of the region.

It is to be specifically mentioned that days ago, Israeli Defence Forces launched an air strike in Lebanon and Syria. Moreover, the top political leadership of Isreal and top brass of Israeli defence forces determined to launch ground invasion in the Gaza Strip.

Meantime, the Israeli armed forces attacked the southern part of the Gaza strip. There is an allegation against the IDF that they have attacked the refugee camps.

On his part, Mr Cleverly expressed his appreciation during the call for Iraq’s role in handling the current situation of the crisis in the Gaza Strip. Mr Cleverly also appreciates Prime Minister Al-Sudani’s positions on the regional tensions.­­

Both further  agreed on the importance of pursuing an immediate ceasefire, expediting humanitarian assistance to the besieged Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip, and implementing international law to achieve a lasting and equitable resolution.
