Saudi Arabia participating in Winter Olympics 2022 for first time

Saudi Arabia will be participating in the Winter Olympic Games 2022 since the contest was started that is in the year of 1924.

For the first time, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be participating in the Winter Olympic Games 2022 since the contest was started that is in the year of 1924. The Winter Olympics are currently being organised in Beijing, China.  

Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Faisal, who is also minister of sports and president of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, joined the representative team of the Kingdom at the Winter Olympics 2022. Saudi Arabia’s envoy to the United States, Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan, along with the other officials, also joined the team.

Cheering up the team and cherishing the historic moment, Princess Bandar bin wrote on her Instagram post, “Filled with pride as I witnessed the first-ever Saudi Winter Olympics Team at the opening ceremony in Beijing today! They inspire us by proving that there is no limit to their ambition.” 

During the opening ceremony of the Olympics, Faiq Abdi, who is representing Saudi Arabia in the Alpine Skiing competition, was the flag bearer, raising the flag of the Kingdom on February 4, 2022. 

The opening ceremony was directed at Beijing’s national stadium, which is known as the “Bird’s Nest,” under strict COVID-19 health protocols. It has happened for the first time that the same country has hosted both the summer and winter Olympics.   

This is indeed a moment that will be engraved in the history of the country. The citizens of Saudi Arabia wished good luck to the team for the Winter Olympics 2022.

The 2022 Winter Olympics, officially known as – the XXIV Olympic Winter Games and commonly known as Beijing 2022, is an ongoing international winter multi-sport event that is scheduled to officially open on February 4, 2022, and is taking place in Beijing, China, with some events in Yanqing and Chongli.
