UAE, Abu Dhabi & Dubai: Authorities warn residents of rainfall, reduced visibility, strong winds and urge strict adherence to safety guidelines across emirates
The United Arab Emirates has issued a nationwide weather alert, warning residents to remain cautious as unstable conditions bring rainfall, strong winds, and reduced visibility across several regions. Authorities are urging the public to prioritise safety and adhere strictly to official guidelines.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) forecast partly cloudy to cloudy skies on Tuesday, with convective clouds expected to develop across most parts of the country. These formations are likely to bring rainfall of varying intensity.
Meteorologists have also warned of light to moderate winds, which could strengthen at intervals. These winds are expected to lift dust and sand, significantly reducing horizontal visibility, particularly in open and desert areas.
Residents have been advised to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary. The Ministry of Interior reiterated public safety measures early Tuesday, stressing the importance of avoiding unnecessary travel and staying alert during adverse weather conditions.
Officials highlighted the risks associated with fast-moving water streams and ponds, cautioning drivers against attempting to cross flooded areas. Vehicles can easily lose traction or slide under such conditions, posing serious safety hazards.
Driving conditions are expected to be challenging, especially during periods of heavy rainfall and dust storms. Authorities have advised motorists to reduce speed, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and remain calm while navigating affected roads.
“Drive only when necessary,” officials stressed, urging residents to avoid non-essential journeys. The combination of wet roads and low visibility increases the likelihood of accidents if precautions are not followed.
In response to deteriorating weather, traffic authorities in Abu Dhabi have implemented temporary speed reductions across key highways. The move aims to enhance road safety and minimise accidents during the unstable conditions.
Speed limits have been reduced to 100 km/h on major routes such as the Abu Dhabi–Al Ain Road and Sweihan Road. Meanwhile, urban roads including Al Khaleej Al Arabi Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Road have seen limits reduced to 60 km/h.

In Sharjah, authorities announced an extension of free public parking across the emirate. The exemption, initially introduced on March 23, will continue until further notice to ease movement and reduce stress for residents during the weather disruption.

Residents living in low-lying areas have been warned to avoid valleys and flood channels, which may quickly fill with water during heavy rainfall. Swimming in the sea has also been prohibited due to rough conditions.
The NCM indicated that sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea will be slight to moderate, turning rough at times. Fishermen and maritime operators have been advised to exercise caution.
Temperature forecasts suggest highs of around 29°C across the country, with slightly lower readings of 26°C in Abu Dhabi and 27°C in Dubai. Night-time temperatures could drop to 19°C in coastal areas and as low as 12°C in mountainous regions.
Humidity levels are expected to range between 45 and 90 percent in Abu Dhabi and 40 to 80 percent in Dubai. Such conditions may contribute to fog formation in certain areas, further affecting visibility.
Authorities have also issued yellow and orange alerts across multiple regions, indicating moderate to severe weather risks. Residents are encouraged to monitor official updates and avoid relying on unverified information.
The Ministry of Interior stressed the importance of obtaining news only from official sources and warned against spreading rumours or exaggerated reports, which could cause unnecessary panic.
