Yellow Dust Warning Issued as UAE Faces Hazy Skies and Potential Rainfall

Abu Dhabi, June 10, 2024The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a yellow warning for dust across the UAE, cautioning residents about reduced horizontal visibility due to dusty conditions expected to last until 8 pm today.

The country is experiencing fair to partly cloudy weather, with the possibility of rainfall in certain regions due to the formation of convective clouds.

Motorists in Abu Dhabi have been urged to exercise increased caution. In a post on X, the social media platform, Abu Dhabi Police highlighted the dangers of reduced visibility caused by the dust and sand, advising drivers to remain vigilant and avoid distractions such as mobile phones.

“Stay alert and keep your eyes on the road. Reduced visibility due to dust and sand can be hazardous,” the post read.

The NCM has also noted a potential for rainfall in the eastern and southern parts of the country this afternoon, a result of convective cloud formation.

This meteorological phenomenon, often accompanied by thunderstorms, could bring much-needed rain to these regions.

In terms of temperatures, internal areas of the UAE are expected to reach a scorching 47ºC. Major cities will also experience high temperatures, with forecasts predicting 44ºC in Abu Dhabi and 43ºC in Dubai.

Humidity levels are set to rise, with Mezaira and Gasyoura experiencing humidity indices of up to 75% and 60%, respectively.

The weather department has also reported that light to moderate winds, occasionally fresh to strong, will be blowing across the country.

These winds will contribute to the dusty and sandy conditions, further impacting visibility. Despite these turbulent weather patterns, the sea conditions are expected to remain slight in both the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea, providing some respite for coastal areas.

This weather alert follows an orange alert issued by the NCM on Sunday, June 9, for rain and strong winds.

The orange alert, which lasted until 8:30 pm, indicated a higher level of preparedness for hazardous weather events. Residents were advised to adhere strictly to the guidelines provided by the authorities to ensure safety.

The NCM’s yellow alert today serves as a reminder of the dynamic and often unpredictable weather patterns experienced in the UAE during this time of year.

It underscores the importance of staying informed and prepared, particularly for those who need to travel or work outdoors.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and heed warnings from the authorities.

Simple precautions, such as driving slowly, using headlights, and avoiding unnecessary travel during peak dust conditions, can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and health issues related to poor air quality.

As the day progresses, the likelihood of convective clouds bringing rain offers a glimmer of relief from the sweltering heat and dusty skies. However, the primary focus remains on safety and preparedness as the country navigates through this challenging weather spell.

In conclusion, the combination of high temperatures, potential rain, and dusty conditions calls for heightened awareness and caution.

The NCM and local authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, ensuring that residents are kept informed and safe amidst these weather challenges.
