ZZ Top’s bassist Dusty Hill dies at 72!

Dusty Hill, the bassist of the Texas based Rock band ZZ Top passed away at the age of 72.

The other two members of the trio, Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard, announced the news via social media. The band’s official social media shared a statement by Beard and Gibbons stating, “We are saddened by the news today that our Compadre, Dusty Hill, has passed away in his sleep at home in Houston, TX.

“We, along with legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, will miss your steadfast presence, your good nature and enduring commitment to providing that monumental bottom to the ‘Top’. We will forever be connected to that “Blues Shuffle in C. You will be missed greatly, amigo,” the statement continued.

The cause of Dusty’s death has not been revealed yet. However, the bassist was dealing with a hip related injury, as told by the band on Friday. As a result, he had to miss the band’s show ZZ Top concert in New Lenox, Ill, which wasn’t cancelled as per Dusty’s wish.

As the news came out, other people from the music industry and Dusty’s fans and friends poured their love and tributes on social media. Paul Stanely, the co-founder of the rock band Kiss tweeted, “WOW! Dusty Hill. What an icon. @ZZTop’s bassist forever. So unique. Always a gentleman from the days of us opening for them through the recent days of them opening for us. I don’t know what to say but “Thank you” and “Rest however you damn well choose!”

Ozzy Osbourne also shared, “Rest In Peace #DustyHill of @ZZTop. My thoughts go out to @BillyfGibbons and Frank Beard and all the #ZZTop fans around the world.”

Above all, SiriusXM Volume radio host Eddie Trunk shared a tweet sharing a text he received from Gibbons. Eddie wrote, “Received this just now via text from @BillyFGibbons regarding passing of Dusty Hill  @ZZTop. Billy told me okay to share w/fans: As Dusty said upon his departure, “ Let the show go on!”.and…with respect, we’ll do well to get beyond this and honor his wishes.”
