DUBAI: Asian ex-pat sentenced to 2 yrs imprisonment on count of stabbing and robbing

The Dubai Criminal Court has announced a sentence of two years for a 35-year-old Asian national who robbed and assaulted another Asian. The accused will be deported after he serves his sentence period.

Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Dubai Criminal Court has announced a sentence of two years for a 35-year-old Asian national who robbed and assaulted another Asian. The accused will be deported after he serves his sentence period. 

The incident took place in the area of Al Raqqa the previous year in the month of May.

As per the report statement, the accused first assaulted the Asian ex-pat with a knife, followed by the action of robbing. The incident came into light after the victim filed a complaint about the robbery. 

The testimony statement of the victim during the time of investigation cites while he was walking down the street in the Al Raqqa area, a person of Asian nationality stopped him, stabbing him in the part of the lower abdomen. The accused then robbed Dh300 sum amount from the victim, as he refused to give away his money on the culprit’s demand.   

The victim then informed that after stealing money from him and giving him injuries, the accused threatened to kill him if he tried to follow him.  

Meanwhile, the police authorities, in their statement, noted that pieces of evidence gathered from the crime scene helped them in the detention of the 35-year-old accused. Dubai police officials added that the man was arrested along with the stabbing weapon. 

Although, amid security concerns, the identities of an individual has not been revealed by the Dubai police authorities.

As per law, in the United Arab Emirates, theft and robbing consist of imprisonment for half a year (6 months) to at least three years, along with a significant fine. 

On the other hand, punishment is also there for the ones who try to steal or rob. The imprisonment for attempted theft or robbing ranges between 3 months to 1 and a half years, along with a fine.
