Sharjah’s Deputy Ruler witnesses launch of 22nd edition of Sir Bu Nair Festival

The Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, UAE, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi attended the launch of the 22nd edition of the Sir Bu Nair Festival initiated last Thursday on the beach of Sir Bu Nair Island.

On arrival, Sheikh Sultan took a tour of the exhibition while accompanying the festival, learning about different marine activities and crafts and the activities offered by the parties taking part and showing their efforts to preserve biodiversity.

After that, the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah witnessed the festival activities that started with a kayak race and a tug-of-war competition by boats in the sea, followed by a tug-of-war competition on the beach, along with several competitions, watching significant interaction among the participating teams.

During the festival, Sheikh Sultan released a group of sea turtles on the edge of Sir Bu Nair Island, after which the turtles arrived at the sea as an addition to the different species that are on the island and its sea in an environment that is rich in biodiversity that contributes towards their reproduction.

During the end of the festival’s launch, the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah marked the supporting institutions and bodies and took memorable pictures with the honourees.

The festival highlights the significance of emphasising the tourism, environmental and cultural value and position of Sir Bu Nair Reserve, and controlling the relationship of the next generations with their heritage and environment, in cooperation and coordination with partners.

The partners are Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, Sharjah Government Media Bureau, Sharjah Institute for Heritage, Emirates Marine Environmental Group, Sharjah Police, Sharjah International Marine Sports Club and Sharjah Sports Council.

Her Excellency Hana Saif Abdullah Al Suwaidi, His Excellency Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, Chairperson of Environment and Protected Areas Authority, His Excellency Issa Hilal Al Hazami, and several officials and athletes attended the launch of the Sir Bu Nair Festival.
