Al Raffa police launched awareness campaign to educate bicyclists, e-scooter riders about traffic laws

Dubai: Al Raffa Police Station had recently launched an awareness campaign in which bicyclists and e-scooter riders were targeted in their jurisdiction area to enlighten them about safety instructions and traffic rules to assure their safety as well as the safety of others and lessen fatalities.

The awareness-raising campaign was done under the leadership of Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, and headed up by Major General Expert Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs.

The Acting Director of Al Raffa Police Station, Colonel Mohammed Ahmed Ashkanani, described that the campaign strives to familiarise bicyclists as well as e-scooter riders with all the traffic-related laws and regulations, tell them about roads and paths specified for this type of transport, and also raise their awareness regarding related safety and security requirements, to reduce road traffic fatalities.

Col. Ashkanani asked e-scooter riders and bicyclists to follow all the rules and regulations provided by relevant authorities, which are as per the traffic rules law.

He highlighted that bicyclists and e-scooter riders must follow all the following conditions of security and safety while driving, while wearing a proper helmet, particularly when biking near highways, along with wearing a reflective jacket, as well as installing bright white front and red rear light reflectors.

He further added that all bicyclists and e-scooter riders must be parked at specified places and not to be left in areas that initiate traffic bottlenecks. Riders must drive with proper care and avoid causing risks to other road users.

The Head of the Traffic Registration Department, Lieutenant Humaid Al-Shemmri, highlight upon the significance of maintaining distance between other vehicles as well as pedestrians along with abstaining from holding or carrying any heavyweights that may impact the balance of the e-scooter and bicycle and would further cause accidents.
