Dubai International Airport is coming back to normal after sandstorms in the area led to two days of disruption, resulting in the cancellation of 44 flights as well as 12 diversions.

Travellers planning to fly from the United Arab Emirates this week are being asked to monitor their schedules for any more possible disruption driven by poor weather and low visibility.

Services were largely unaffected at the Dubai Internation on Monday, August 15, despite blowing dust and sand around the city and visibility falling to just 500 metres in a few areas.

Many flights from Dubai were delayed by almost one hour on Monday, but the disruption resulting from the weather was kept to a minimum.

An airport representative stated that Dubai Airports could confirm that services at Dubai International (DXB) are presently recovering to normal after the extensive weather delays in the country over the last two days.

Between Sunday afternoon and the morning of Monday, a total of 44 flights had to be cancelled, while 12 flights were diverted to the Dubai World Central (DWC), and a few other neighbouring airports have since come back to DXB or their respective base.

The airport representative further stated that they are working closely with airlines and other service partners to come back to normalcy as soon as possible and to assure that inconvenience to the customers is at the lowest.

The representative also urged all the customers to confirm directly from their airlines to acquire the latest information regarding their flights’ status.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) also issued a warning on Monday regarding poor weather conditions near Abu Dhabi International, Al Maktoum and Al Bateen International airports due to the blowing winds causing horizontal visibility to be decreased to only 1,000m.

Flydubai and Emirates urged passengers to check the websites before leaving for the airport in case of cancellations or delays.
