UAE: Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed crowns winners of Fatima bint Mubarak Women Sports Award

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan has crowned the winners of the sixth year of the Fatima bint Mubarak Women Sports Award.

The ceremony took place on Saturday, September 17, at the Emirates Palace located in Abu Dhabi.

It was the first of its kind award in the region and strived to encourage women and showcase their accomplishments in the field of sports.

The Best Arab Athlete Award was bagged by Giana Farouk Mahmoud of Egypt; the best Emirati Athlete Award was given to Shamma Yousef Al Kalbani, and the Best Young Athlete award was secured by Hana Ayman Goda of Egypt.

The other winners of the event were Rehab Ahmed Radwan of Egypt, who won the award of the Best Paralympic Athlete; Aziza Nait Sibaha for the Best Sports Media; Faris Al Assaf, who won the Best Coach award; the Egyptian Weightlifting Federation was awarded the Best Team; the Jordan Women’s Football Association for Best Youth Development Programme and the Emirates International Endurance Village won the award for the Best Sports Creative Initiative.

Ons Jabeur from Tunisia got the award of Sports Personality of the Year.

The categories of these awards included several fields such as sports management, research, training, sports sponsorship, as well as women of determination and the value of the prizes amounted to a total of Dh1,700,000.

Mariam Al Mansoori, Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy Representative, said, “We desire to see Arab women persist in taking the lead in local and international sports events, and this award will contribute to the birth of new accomplishments in the Arab women’s sports career.”
