St Kitts: Replacements of ‘Principals’ in primary education institutions

St Kitts and Nevis have seen many changes in the education sector in the first month of January 2023 as a few principals of the primary academic institutions retired and vacant their posts for future generations to take over.

St Kitts and Nevis have seen many changes in the education sector in the first month of January 2023 as a few principals of the primary academic institutions retired and vacant their posts for future generations to take over.

As per recent information, the Principal at Violet Petty Primary, Patrice O’ Loughlin, took retirement and handed over his post to the candidate named Shontall Billingshurst, who was appointed as the New Deputy principal and replaced Billinghurst.

Similarly, the Principal of Welsh Primary School named Valldine Rogers retired from the position and acknowledged Darneisha Williams as the new Principal. 

In addition, former principal Valldine Rogers served the Welsh Primary School as an educator, teacher and mentor to the students throughout the Nation Primary School System period for decades and retired as the Principal.

Furthermore, some changes are being seen in the other educational institutions in the country with suitable replacements of the deserving personnel at the post of Principal, which read as follows,

Maurice Benjamin replaces Andrea James for Cayon High School 

Maurice Benjamin is all set to bring his vast wealth of knowledge, experience, and educational leadership to Cayon High School. As per the information, Benjamin has served as the Principal of the BHS for the last seven years and possesses useful skills and knowledge to run an academic institution.

He is expected to bring that experience to Cayon High as the new Principal there. Deputy Principal Gavin Blake will support Benjamin. Benjamin filled the spot that had been made vacant some months ago after the exit of Andrea James, who left the post to join the Private sector.

Damon Bacchus was named Principal of BHS (Basseterre High School), and Dalton Esdaille became 2nd Deputy

Likewise, in others institutions, Damon Bacchus is appointed as the new Principal at Basseterre High. Bacchus replaces Maurice Benjamin, who has been transferred to Cayon High School.

Mr Bacchus will be supported and assisted by Mr John Samuel, 1st Deputy Principal and Mr Dalton Esdaille, the new 2nd Deputy Principal. Mr Esdaille previously served as the Deputy Principal at Cayon High School.

Mr Bacchus attended Basseterre High school and taught there for 15 years. While as a Maths teacher, Mr Bacchus has served in various capacities, including but not limited to: Deputy Principal, Senior management member, Inter-School Manager, and Interact Club Faculty Advisor. 

Mr Bacchus holds a BSc. in Business Management, an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and a Diploma in Education for Secondary schools, all from the University of the West Indies.

Mr Esdaille holds a B.Ed. Mathematics Education and a Diploma in Education for Secondary school. The reports also stated that Mr Bacchus and Mr Esdaille received best wishes as they took on the mantle of leading the ‘BIRTHPLACE OF CHAMPIONS!’.

Javan Cannonier takes charge as the Principal of Cayon Primary School.

In the end, Mr Javan Cannonier was appointed as the new Principal at the Cayon Primary School after the retirement of former principal D. Angela Matthew. 

Per the information, Javan Cannonier has previously served as Deputy Principal and stepped up to replace now-former Principal D. Angela Matthew, who has moved on to the Ministry of Education as an Education Officer. Ms Sycely Liburd will support Cannonier as the new Deputy Principal.
