St Kitts and Nevis: The Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley, welcomed Canadian Ambassador Lilian Chatterjee at his office in Pinneys Estate yesterday, January 17th. 

St Kitts and Nevis: The Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley, welcomed Canadian Ambassador Lilian Chatterjee at his office in Pinneys Estate yesterday, January 17th. The meeting was held to discuss diplomatic relationships between both nations and continue strengthening their longstanding ties.

In his remarks, Premier Mark Brantley addressed the Canadian Ambassador to the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) to Nevis with due respect.

He stated,” Our bond with Canada remains a main pillar of our international relations, and we continue to strengthen and deepen ties between our two countries”.

As per the updates, the main motive of the visit was to discuss common interests and bilateral relationships between Canada and Nevis. 

On his part, Premier Mark Brantley further added, “I am delighted ad grateful to welcome Ambassador Lilian Chatterjee, my dear friend to Nevis, as she is no stranger to our nation and Caribbean. Besides, she deeply understands the core of diplomatic ties and issues between the Caribbean and Canada”.

The updates have stated that the Canadian Ambassador, Chatterjee, has been to St Kitt’s before during her last visit, but she has yet to come to Nevis. Specifically, this time, she visited Nevis to fulfil her promise to Nevis’s Premier, Mark Brantley.

Premier Mark Brantley expressed immense gratitude and warm welcome towards the Ambassador and stated that Canada, St Kitts, and Nevis have been sharing deep ties for a long time. 

The people of Nevis share a deep connection with Canadian soil, as many Caribbean families live there.

Additionally, Brantley also pointed out that there has been rapid development and growth in various infrastructural sectors of St Kitts and Nevis through the support of the Canadian government,

such as school roads and other notable developments make both countries share a long history.

Meanwhile, while addressing the significance of the relationship between Canada and Nevis, Mark Brantley stated that the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau chose Nevis as his vacation destination with his family in January 2016 after being elected in October 2015.

At the end of the meeting, Canadian Ambassador Lillian Chatterjee thanked Premier Brantley for his warm welcome and said, “Visiting this beautiful, beautiful Island is an opportunity for me to have a dialogue with you to strengthen our ties moving forward”.
