St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Outlines Administration’s Plans for the Country

The Prime Minister discussed the seven foundational pillars that his administration focuses on food security, green energy transition, economic diversification, sustainable industries, creative economy, Covid-19 recovery, and social protection.

During the conference, Dr Drew also discussed developments in his portfolio, which includes National Security, Social Security, Citizenship by Investment program, and Health. He revealed that the Citizenship by Investment program is undergoing a transformation under the new head of the CIU, Michael Martin, and thanked the former CEO, Les Khan, for his contributions.

The Prime Minister also talked about the upcoming 80th anniversary of Buckley’s Uprising. This event marks a significant turning point in the country’s social, economic, and political journey towards self-determination and nationhood.

When it comes to the Ministry of Health, Dr Drew acknowledged the struggles of healthcare workers and the sacrifices they have made throughout history, specifically mentioning Nevis hero Joseph N France, whose name is honoured in the country’s General Hospital.

He also acknowledged the strengths and weaknesses of the hospital and promised to make JNF General the best secondary and tertiary care hospital in St Kitts and Nevis.

He extended his gratitude towards the workers and employees working in the health institution for their role in the hospital and stated that the ministry is open to all forms of criticism and recommendations concerning health and healthcare services.

Dr Drew also highlighted the challenges faced by the healthcare force of St Kitts and Nevis during the pandemic and acknowledged the sacrifices made by healthcare workers who put their own and families lives on the line while serving the country. He commended them and said they must be honoured.

The Prime Minister also discussed other important developments in the country. He talked about the government’s efforts to ensure food security by promoting local agriculture and reducing import dependency.

He also highlighted the importance of transitioning to green energy to reduce the country’s carbon footprint and create sustainable industries. Additionally, Dr Drew emphasised the need for economic diversification to create more job opportunities for St Kitts and Nevis citizens.

The prime minister discussed the government’s initiatives to help local creative entrepreneurs and artists and advance national cultural tourism.

He discussed several steps the government has taken to assist people impacted by the epidemic, emphasising the necessity for continued assistance to support the nation’s recovery.

Dr Drew highlighted the need for social protection for St. Kitts and Nevis residents. He discussed the government’s initiatives to support the elderly, the disabled, and marginalised populations.

He emphasised the importance of having a robust social protection system to guarantee that everyone has access to the assistance they require.

During the press conference, the prime minister and his cabinet had the opportunity to update the public and the media on the government’s plans and developments.

The prime minister emphasised the government’s dedication to open, truthful, and accountable governance. He clarified that every initiative, strategy, and policy is intended to benefit all St. Kitts and Nevis citizens.
