St Kitts and Nevis: The member of Parliament and former Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Timothy Harris, has recently made a promise to announce the names of the country’s first-ever Official Cultural Ambassadors based on the commitment based on the Team Unity Campaign.

As per the latest information, the Cultural Ambassadors will be named shortly as part of the administration’s overall commitment to enhancing the entertainment industry in the Federation.

In addition, Unfortunately, the TU Administration’s second 5-year mandate was cut short prematurely, and as a result, many initiatives, including the Cultural Ambassador initiative, never came to fruition.

The reports have stated that today morning the Minister of the Creative Industry, Hon. Samal Duggins hinted at the distinct possibility of his Ministry and the Drew-led administration bringing that commitment to fruition by announcing and introducing several Cultural Ambassadors.

Furthermore, Minister Duggins hinted that several performers, including DJs and other entertainers, are being considered for the designation, and he had been meeting with several of them to discuss the way forward.

“The designation of Cultural Ambassadors is practised and legislated in many other islands in the region, including Antigua with Tian Winter and the Burning Flames, among others and Dominica with WCK and Triple K”,. said Duggins.

In St Kitts and Nevis, a plethora of entertainers can easily fit the bill as full-time Cultural Ambassadors.

King Socrates Hodge, Gregory Mr Mention Hobson, Royston Mr World Wigley, Dejour, DJ Tero, Akaii U Sweet, Queen Independent, King Astro and Infamous easily come to mind. Other worthy considerations as Ambassadors include Sister Sensia,

As per the sources, Duggins nor his Ministry has released any information regarding the criteria and process that will be used to select these Ambassadors.

However, it is expected, at the least, that these Ambassadors will use their platform and talent not only to continue their development

but also to promote the development of the culture of the Federation on a regional and International scale. The Ambassadors will undoubtedly be afforded many privileges that will significantly enhance their story and that of the culture of the Nation.

The position is also expected to be salaried, likely on the level of government-appointed Ambassadors like the Ambassador to the UN, Taiwan, the US or Caricom.
