In addition, Covid-19 has caused nearly 10.5 million new cases, with over 90,000 deaths around the world in the last 28 days from January 9 to February 5, 2023, said reports.

Furthermore, the recorded figures reflected the decrease in the cases related to Covid-19 by 89% and 8% as compared to the previous 28 days period.

The current numbers of its cases need to be more accurate of the true stats globally regarding infections and reinfections, which can be due to the reduction in testing procedures and delays in reporting in several countries, reports confirmed.

Ministry of Health, Saint Lucia, conveyed that the latest stats reported during the last 28 days decreased or remained stable in the regions under the WHO (World Health Organization).

The highest number of recorded cases in the last 28 days were reported in China at the country level, which is around, (34,85,265 cases at 97%), the United States with (1328654 at 27%) and Japan with (2429215 new cases at 42%), according to the recent reports.

Moreover, at the regional level, until February 6, 2023, during the last four weeks, cases confirmed from registered laboratories have remained relatively low in CAROHA Member States (CMS). Additionally, the number of deaths has been on the decline per 100,000 population from March 2022 and continued in January this year.

The 25-49-year-old age group is most affected. The highest incidence is noted in Babonneau and Gros-Islet.

These dives in the numbers are recorded due to a reduction in testing in Saint Lucia. According to sources, the cases of Covid-19 remained below 5 daily during the past month.

Ministry of Health is monitoring the emergence and occurrence of the new variants of Covid-19 along with its sub-variants and has sequenced sub-variants close to 12 omicrons currently present in the nation.
