Egypt calls for respect of Libyan will and institutions in election preparations

Cairo, Egypt: Egypt called for respecting the will of the Libyan people and avoiding overstepping the role of Libyan institutions

As part of following the developments of the preparations for national elections in Libya, along with the efforts of relevant Libyan institutions and international engagements, in this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, affirmed Egypt’s full support for the Libyan-Libyan path to a resolution, according to the update shared by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry has further informed that Ambassador Abu Zeid emphasized the importance of respecting the role of Libyan institutions while fulfilling their responsibilities without any external parties’ dictates or interventions.

The Foreign Ministry Spokesperson added that Egypt affirms the pivotal role of both the House of Representatives and State Council, in accordance with their mandates as per the Skhirat Agreement, to ensure all necessary frameworks are met for conducting the presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously in Libya at the earliest possible time.

Moreover, Ambassador Abu Zeid called on all international parties to abide by these principles and guidelines, which are indispensable, and to respect the will of the Libyan people and Libya’s ownership of the settlement, as per the update.

He also highlighted the importance of refraining from taking any measures that might encroach upon the role of institutions in order to prevent further complications and ensure Libya’s stability and sovereignty while also realizing the legitimate aspirations of the Libyan people.
