Bahrain: WHO Office held Workshop on Climate change  

World Health Organization(WHO)recently held a workshop on “Impact assessment and adaptation to climate change”. The meeting was organised by WHO  with the due collaboration of the Ministery of Health, Bahrain and the Supreme Council of the Environment.

World Health Organization(WHO)recently held a workshop on “Impact assessment and adaptation to climate change”. The meeting was organised by WHO  with the due collaboration of the Ministery of Health, Bahrain and the Supreme Council of the Environment.

The main objective of the workshop was to highlight the issues of environment and climate change. Both sides expressed to extend their support to each other for the implementation of environmental-related policies and regulations.

Dr Tasnim Atatara, the WHO representative to the Kingdom of Bahrain, stressed that this workshop is aimed to underline the serious effort of Bahrain to counter the negative effects of climate change.

She also appreciated the policies of Bahrain towards the goal of sustainable development. Sustainability development is a concept that calls for minimum damage to the environment while executing developmental works.

Dr Atatara, also said that building a sustainable health system is the need of the hour. Sustainable health is an integral part of the strategies that contribute to a sustainable developmental future.

Meanwhile, Laila Ali Sabil, who holds the position of the director of the Department of Climate Change and Sustainable Development at the Supreme Council executive body, stated that SCE is working seriously towards achieving the goals of sustainable development. Moreover, SCE is also preparing plans and studies that will be useful for the adaptation to climate change in future, including in  the Health aspects.

While speaking on the occasion, Mohammed Al-Alwadi, Director of the public health department, said that in Bahrain efforts are in full swing that will enhance the capacity building of the health system to  overcome the climate change challenges.

It is worth mentioning that the workshop lasted for two days. A large number of officials, including specialists in the health and environment, also participated in the workshop.

Officials of the Ministry of Health officials made it clear that the ministry is always committed to making Bahrain safe and enviormental friendly nations.
