In a groundbreaking development, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has emerged as a global leader in combating drug-related crimes through the strategic utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.

Spearheaded by the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, the UAE’s innovative approach has garnered international acclaim for its effectiveness in curbing the promotion and distribution of narcotics on social media and digital platforms.

Addressing a Federal National Council (FNC) session, Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Minister of Interior, unveiled staggering statistics that underscore the nation’s remarkable achievements in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.

Notably, the UAE has claimed the top spot globally for reducing drug-related crimes, with a significant decrease in drug-related reports and fatalities.

Over the past five years, the UAE has witnessed a remarkable surge in the arrests of drug traffickers, recording a staggering 103 percent increase. This concerted effort has led to the seizure of over 78 tonnes of illegal narcotics, valued at Dh2.4 billion, on the streets.

These monumental achievements signify the UAE’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding its communities from the scourge of drug abuse.

Central to the UAE’s success has been the deployment of cutting-edge AI-powered tools, which enable authorities to swiftly identify and block social media platforms and websites promoting illicit drugs, both domestically and globally.

By leveraging advanced algorithms, these tools autonomously detect and combat the proliferation of illegal products, reinforcing the nation’s zero-tolerance stance against drug-related offenses.

Collaborating closely with global partners such as Meta, the UAE has established a formidable network to combat drug crimes on a transnational scale.

Through international cooperation and joint operations, UAE authorities have apprehended 179 suspects across 196 operations worldwide, resulting in the confiscation of 6.9 tonnes of drugs. This proactive approach underscores the UAE’s pivotal role in fostering global security and stability.

In addition to disrupting drug trafficking networks, the UAE has intensified its crackdown on money laundering activities linked to drug crimes.

With 1,881 bank accounts frozen and 173 suspects apprehended, the country is taking decisive action to dismantle illicit financial networks and stem the flow of illicit funds.

Sheikh Saif bin Zayed emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in combating drug-related crimes, reaffirming the UAE’s commitment to fostering international partnerships to address this pressing global challenge.

He commended the Ministry of Interior’s steadfast dedication and the pivotal role of AI technology in safeguarding communities and promoting public safety.

As the UAE continues to lead by example in leveraging technology and innovation to tackle complex societal issues, its proactive approach serves as a beacon of hope in the global fight against drug abuse and trafficking.

With a firm resolve and unwavering determination, the nation stands at the forefront of efforts to build a safer and more secure future for all.
