Dominica: PM Skerrit joins groundbreaking event for Loubiere to Grand Bay Road Construction

Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica attended the groundbreaking ceremony for Loubiere to Grand Bay Road construction project on September 20, 2024. The project will be completed with a budgetary amount of EC$116.

The Loubiere to Grand Bay Road Construction project was planned to ensure smooth traffic movement. When completed it will benefit local residents, farmers and business community.

PM Skerrit while taking to his social media handles shared glimpses of the groundbreaking ceremony. On his official Facebook page PM stated “ This is not an ordinary project; rather it is a great opportunity for locals, farmers and members from the business community to convert their dream into reality.”

PM, while stressing the importance of road connectivity stated that “roads play a crucial role in the development of any country’s economy. They are like veins that connect the entire human body by supplying blood.”

It is worth to note that the Loubiere to Grand Bay Road Construction project will include the construction of five bridges. Moreover it will cover maintenance of drainage system, slope stabilization, road widening and road alignment.

During his address the PM also encouraged the citizens to take control over their financial future to ensure the country’s progress. He also expressed hope that everyone would be happy to be part of the country’s economic progress.

It is also to be noted that the project involves three different components. The first one is for better road management. The second will be gender-responsive road safety awareness strategies, whereas the third will focus on providing assistance to the communities affected by the project.

As the government of the United Kingdom is providing financial assistance for the project, PM Skerrit extends his gratitude to the UK government. PM said we are thankful to the government of the UK for assistance. This assistance is very important for us to achieve the sustainable development goals.

On the other hand social media users while reacting to the PM’s Facebook post extended their best wishes. One Facebook user Mava Harry commented “Good PM, that’s a great project, good government, great leader.”
