Dubai is set to witness an extraordinary spectacle this December 13, as a unique show combining drones, fireworks, and skydiving stunts will light up the night sky.

The event, designed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), promises to be a visual extravaganza over Bluewaters and The Beach, JBR.

The show will feature 150 pyro drones—drones equipped with fireworks—taking off at 8 pm, followed by a second performance at 10 pm.

These cutting-edge drones will not only light up the sky with breathtaking pyrotechnic displays but will also be joined by skydivers leaping from 10,000 feet, performing acrobatic stunts while soaring through the sky with their pyrotechnic-equipped suits.

Kaltham Al Shamsi, Assistant Manager of Events Planning at Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRA), described the show as a fusion of pyrotechnics and advanced drone technology, emphasizing its role in the year-long DSF celebrations.

“This dazzling pyro drones show merges pyrotechnics with state-of-the-art drone technology for two special performances on December 13 and January 11,” said Al Shamsi.

Marco Niedermeier, CEO of AO Multimedia and Drones, who is behind the show’s production, explained that the collaboration with Skydive Dubai has brought two exceptional performances to life.

“While the drones illuminate the sky with fireworks, the skydivers will leap from 10,000 feet, soaring above and in front of the drones in an exhilarating display,” said Niedermeier.

He added that the skydivers, some of the most skilled in the world, will also perform a mesmerizing “dance” mid-air, using their pyrotechnic suits to enhance the spectacle.

AO Drones, based in Dubai, operates a fleet of 6,000 drones and has previously been behind iconic shows like the New Year’s Eve display at the Burj Khalifa and the Chinese dragon flight around the Burj Al Arab.

The company’s advanced technology allows the drones to create intricate light effects and 3D animations while carrying firework effects, seamlessly integrating them into the choreography of the show.

“Each drone is powered by four advanced micro-engines and equipped with innovative software,” said Niedermeier, noting that the drones can perform flawlessly in winds of up to 8m/s.

The theme of the pyro drone show will take the audience on a journey through the three decades of DSF, showcasing unforgettable moments, milestones, and the festival’s significant impact on Dubai’s cultural and entertainment landscape.

According to Al Shamsi, the show will offer a unique perspective on the transformation of Dubai through these past 30 years.

In addition to the special performances on December 13 and January 11, the DSF drone shows will continue until January 12, with twice-daily shows at 8 pm and 10 pm.

These regular shows, which began on December 6, are a visual marvel in their own right, featuring over 1,000 drones and 4,000 propellers choreographed to deliver a seamless visual symphony.

The drone displays are powered by cutting-edge technology, offering an immersive experience for the viewers.

As Dubai continues to push the boundaries of innovation in entertainment, the pyro drone show promises to be a highlight of the 30th-anniversary celebrations, offering a thrilling and memorable experience for residents and visitors alike.
