A man has been sentenced to two months in prison after physically assaulting a Dubai Police officer during an altercation at the Naif Police Station on March 29, 2023.
The defendant, who was later identified during the trial, will also face deportation after serving his sentence.
The incident began when the defendant and an accompanying individual arrived at the Naif Police Station at approximately 9:40 PM, seeking to resolve a dispute.
The individual accompanying the defendant had accused him of harassing and threatening him and his family, prompting both men to visit the police station for resolution.
Upon arrival, the defendant was asked to proceed to the investigation room for questioning. However, he became immediately defiant, loudly proclaiming his innocence and refusing to provide any identification when requested by the officer in charge.
The officer attempted to deescalate the situation by urging the defendant to cooperate and provide his personal information for verification purposes. Despite the officer’s efforts, the defendant refused, and the situation quickly escalated.
As tensions rose, the defendant laid on the ground, screaming in protest, and continued to refuse to comply with the officer’s requests.
In a fit of frustration, he stormed out of the office, prompting the officer to step in and attempt to escort him back to the investigation room.
The situation became violent when the defendant forcefully resisted the officer’s efforts. In the struggle, the defendant kicked the officer and moved aggressively, causing the officer to sustain injuries, including a damaged little finger on his right hand and a wound to his right ear.
Despite the defendant’s violent behavior, officers at the scene were able to subdue him and bring the situation under control.
During his trial at the Dubai Criminal Court, the defendant admitted to the charges of resisting a public official with force and causing injuries during the execution of official duties.
The court found the man guilty and sentenced him to two months in prison for his actions. In addition to his prison sentence, the defendant will also face deportation upon completion of his sentence.
