DUBAI – A new intercity bus service connecting Dubai and Sharjah will commence operations on Friday, May 2, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Monday, as part of a broader initiative to improve public transport connectivity across the emirate.

The introduction of the new route comes amid wider changes to Dubai’s public bus network, also taking effect on May 2. RTA emphasized that these updates are aimed at providing a “smoother, more efficient, and comfortable commuting experience” for all passengers.

Among the major changes, Route 17 will now terminate at Baniyas Square Metro Station instead of Al Sabkha Bus Station, enhancing integration with the metro system.

Route 24 will be re-routed within the Al Nahda 1 area to better serve the community, while Route 44 will be adjusted to include Dubai Festival City, offering improved access to this popular destination.

Several other routes have also been modified to meet evolving commuter needs. Route 56 will be extended to reach the DWC Staff Village, and Routes 66 and 67 will add a new stop at the Al Ruwayah Farm area.

Adjustments to Route 32C will see the service between Al Jafiliya Bus Station and Al Satwa Bus Station curtailed, with passengers advised to use Route F27 for continued travel to Al Satwa. In addition, Route C26 will now operate from the Max Metro Land Side Bus Stop 2 instead of Al Jafiliya Bus Station.

Further route enhancements include Route E16, which will terminate at Union Bus Station instead of Al Sabkha Bus Station, and Route F12, which will now travel via Kuwait Street after curtailing the section between Al Satwa Roundabout and Al Wasl Park.

Moreover, Route F47 will be re-routed within Jebel Ali Industrial Area, while Route F54 will be extended to serve the new JAFZA South labour camp. Meanwhile, Route X92’s bus stop has been relocated to Max Metro Land Side Bus Stop 1.

“RTA is committed to expanding the public bus network and improving its integration with other transit modes, such as the metro, tram, and marine transport,” said Adel Shakeri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency.

“Enhancing intermodal connectivity is central to positioning public transport as the preferred choice for mobility across the emirate.”

The latest improvements align with RTA’s ongoing strategy to make public transport more accessible, reliable, and comfortable for residents and visitors alike.

By enhancing bus routes and launching new intercity services, RTA aims to reduce traffic congestion, promote sustainable transport options, and support Dubai’s broader vision of a smart, connected city.

Passengers are encouraged to review the updated bus schedules and plan their journeys accordingly to benefit from the new routes and improved services.
