Abu Dhabi Steps Up Crackdown on Food Safety Violations as More Eateries Face Closure

The latest closure adds to a growing list of food establishments recently penalised for non-compliance. Just earlier this week, five restaurants and a supermarket were shut down across Abu Dhabi following inspections that revealed significant violations

Abu Dhabi, UAE – The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has intensified its ongoing crackdown on food safety violations across the emirate, ordering the closure of another restaurant, Zaiqa Grill N Restaurant, located in the Al Dana area.

The action comes as part of ADAFSA’s continued enforcement of Law No. (2) of 2008, which governs food safety standards in the emirate. According to the authority, Zaiqa Grill N Restaurant was found to be in breach of multiple provisions of the law and its related executive regulations, posing risks to public health and hygiene.

The latest closure adds to a growing list of food establishments recently penalised for non-compliance. Just earlier this week, five restaurants and a supermarket were shut down across Abu Dhabi following inspections that revealed significant violations.

The named establishments include Pak Ravi Restaurant, Lahore Garden Grill Restaurant and Cafeteria, Karak Future Cafeteria, Rich and Fresh Supermarket, Salty Desi Darbar Restaurant, and Al Maqam Corner Restaurant.

Among the more recent closures is Rupashi Bangla Restaurant LLC, a Bengali food establishment, which was also ordered to cease operations. ADAFSA noted that the restaurant posed a direct threat to public health, citing severe food safety breaches that required immediate action.

In a statement, ADAFSA reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health and maintaining strict hygiene standards across all food establishments. “Ensuring food safety is a shared responsibility,” the authority said. “We will not hesitate to take legal action against violators who compromise the safety and well-being of consumers.”

Food safety inspectors routinely carry out surprise inspections at restaurants, cafeterias, supermarkets, and food processing facilities.

These inspections focus on cleanliness, proper food storage, hygiene practices of staff, pest control, and adherence to safe cooking and food handling procedures. Establishments found in violation face warnings, fines, and in severe cases, temporary or permanent closures.

Residents in Abu Dhabi have been urged to report any suspicious food practices or hygiene lapses they observe. ADAFSA has made available multiple channels for public complaints and feedback, including a hotline and official website.

The wave of closures comes ahead of the New Year festivities, a time when restaurants traditionally witness increased footfall. Authorities are working to ensure that all food served to the public during this peak season adheres to the highest safety standards.

As the emirate continues to position itself as a global destination for culinary tourism and hospitality, ADAFSA’s firm actions serve as a reminder that public health remains a top priority. The authority has warned that more inspections will follow in the coming weeks and that it will continue to apply zero tolerance toward violations.

For regular updates on food safety alerts and inspections, residents are encouraged to follow official ADAFSA communications and check listings published periodically by the authority.
