Dominica: Dr Roosevelt Skerrit- Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, has recently taken part in a press conference where he addressed a number of critical issues and challenges along with future plans of the government to follow moving forward. He updated the nation regarding the recent updates and current affairs of the country.

According to the shared updates, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit addressed the recent updates regarding the construction project of the International airport along with the timeline of receiving all the machinery and resources to begin the project a few days back.

He added that the project is currently on roll, and the government of the nation is taking the necessary steps to complete the on-ground procedures regarding offloading of heavy equipment and smooth conduct of work.

The reports also stated that during the press conference, PM Skerrit also pointed out that several statements have come to his notice regarding the payments for homeowners and landowners in the Wesley region. the government under his leadership is certainly prioritising the issue to resolve as soon as possible, he said.

Furthermore, he noted that the malicious attempts by the people are highly condemned with no direct related interest in the matter of payments who are seeking to convert it into a conflicted matter. Prime Minister further said that compensating is an ongoing process which is into consideration by the nation’s government.

Moreover, during his statement, Prime Minister Skerrit also confirmed that the government of Dominica have already passed payment in full to landowners, which comes into effect in January 2023 for Twenty-Four Million Three Hundred and Forty-four Thousand Eight Hundred and seven dollars and forty-eight cents.

Meanwhile, in the next few weeks, the outstanding payments will be paid off to the landowners and homeowners, said the Prime Minister. 

Additionally, he added that around 26 homeowners had been handed over the keys to the houses by the authorities who have been affected by the construction process of the new International Airport in Joe Burton development.
