Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica extended his best wishes to the people on the 46th Independence Day. He also addressed the citizens at the parade held to celebrate the country’s Independence Day.

In his address, the PM Skerrit urged the citizens to keep the legacy alive of those who fought for the rights of determination. The President of Dominica, Sylvanie Burton and several other dignitaries were also present on this occasion along with PM Skerrit.

Prime Minister Skerrit welcomed the attendees at the beginning of his brief address. At the same time, the PM also honoured many notable people who have contributed to the country’s development with their work, dedication and achievements.

PM highlighted the achievements of Dominica’s Olympian Thea Lafond. It is worth noting that Thea Lafond won Dominica’s first gold medal at the recently concluded Paris Olympic Games. In his address, PM Skerrit called Thea Lafond a source of inspiration for the country’s young generation.

Prime Minister described her as a star sportswoman of Dominica who made great sacrifices to succeed at international competitions. She is an example of consistency, commitment and self-determination that made all the Dominicans proud.

In his address, the PM stated, “our country is a treasure and it is our collective responsibility to preserve it. He also stressed his government’s efforts for the country’s overall development.”

PM Skerrit stated that November 3 every year reminds us of the importance of self-determination. Moreover, we all are here to celebrate this important day due to the unconditional sacrifices of many people who fought for our better future.

While speaking about the current challenges, PM explained how the world has changed and brought new challenges to tackle. In his address, the PM added that due to changing circumstances and challenges, we also need to make changes in our strategies to overcome these current challenges.

PM Skerrit also highlighted the excellent performance of cricketers Alick Athanaze and Kavem Hodge against England in the Test Series. During this series, Kavem Hodge secured his maiden test century.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, ended his address by encouraging the citizens to grab new opportunities. He stated, “we must prepare ourselves for every opportunity that comes our way.” PM asserted, in current circumstances, only those nations will survive that are able to change and adapt to face new challenges.
