Roseau, Dominica: The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica – Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, has arrived and joined the leaders from the European Union (EU) and Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to participate in the third EU-CELAC summit to be held from 17 to 18 July 2023 in Brussels, Belgium.

According to recent updates, a number of topics and concerns will be discussed by the representatives of EU-CELAC member states during the summit.

The major topics will include Confronting Climate Change: Towards a Fair and Sustainable Transition;’ ‘Fair and Inclusive Digital Transformation: Bridging Digital Gaps and Fostering Research and Innovation;’ ‘Citizen Security, Justice, Fighting Transnational Organized Crime;’ and ‘Trade, Sustainable Development and Economic Recovery in the Post-Pandemic Period.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of the Commonwealth of Dominica will be shedding light on the topics in cooperation with his colleague, Heads of OECS.

During the time of PM Skerrit in Brussels, Cassanni Laville, the Minister of Health, Wellness and Social Services, will serve in the capacity of Acting Prime Minister of the nature island, said reports.

As per the updates, the EU-CELAC summit, including 33 regional blocs of Latin American and Caribbean states, was launched in 2010. The third edition of the summit aims to boost cooperation among the EU-CELAC while researching different ways of working together to achieve fair green and digital transitions.

The meeting will also emphasize a collective commitment to support rules-based international order, said updates.

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, along with the Prime Minister of St Vincent and Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, will lead the summit in the presence of the Heads of State and Governments of the EU and CELAC member states.

PM Ralph Gonsalves will co-chair the summit as CELAC pro tempore president, updates added.

The President of the European Commission and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy will also participate in the third summit of EU-CELAC.

The participating leaders of the member states are anticipated to join hands in combatting the mutual challenges they face during the third EU-CELAC summit in 2023.
