Dominica: PM Skerrit attends Heritage Day at La Plaine

Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica attended “Heritage Day” event on October 21, 2024. The La Plaine community organized the event ahead of the 46th Independence Day scheduled for November 3.

It is worth noting that the Prime Minister also honoured a cultural elder, Hilda Prosper on this occasion. The PM honoured her with sashes in an impressive sashing ceremony. Hilda Prosper is the former leader of the Bele group of La Plaine. She is a sportswoman who helped La Plaine’s progress in many ways.

 

The PM shared the information on his social media handles. He also shared glimpses of the event on his official Facebook page, where he honouring people for their remarkable achievements in different fields.

 

PM stated on his official Facebook page Heritage Day was celebrated at La Plaine on Sunday with the sashing of Cultural Elder, Ms. Hilda Prosper. Here are some highlights of this special event.

It is to be noted that every year before Independence Day, pre-independence events are held across many parts of the country. The  heritage day is part of Creole month celebrations.

The PM addressed the attendees and extended best wishes. More specifically, he urged the members of the community to use their rich heritage to boost heritage tourism in the region, which will be an economic booster.

He said every member of the community must feel proud of its rich heritage. As per PM, it is time to think beyond entertainment and utilize La Planine’s heritage tourism potential.

At the same time, Cultural Minister Gretta Roberts supports the PM’s calls for promoting heritage tourism. She said this would change the destiny of the region and bring joy and prosperity to the lives of residents.

On the other hand, while reacting to the Facebook post of PM Skerrit, social media users lauded the people honoured by PM Skerrit. They appreciate PM for the idea of the promotion of heritage tourism.

One Facebook user, Catherine Janice Leighton-Armah, commented ” So beautiful, congratulations to all”.
