The UAE could soon be home to the Middle East’s biggest tourism destination resort, the Dhs18 billion Moon Dubai, or in the latest update, Moon Abu Dhabi.
Proposals for the mega Moon Resort project, which is designed to look exactly as it sounds, were proposed by Moon World Resorts Inc last year and re-emerged in September.
Since then, the Moon resort concept founders have been exploring various locations for the project in the UAE, with Abu Dhabi now joining Dubai as a potential destination.
Co-founder Michael R. Henderson said the space tourism project has seen a wave of investor interest since making regional headlines in September, including encouragement from Emiratis.
Henderson told Hotelier Middle East: ““In terms of geographic areas where it would be best to develop MOON, it could be Dubai or Abu Dhabi”.
He said there would only be one Moon Resort per region, so Dubai and Abu Dhabi will considered alongside cities across the Middle East.
Currently in design phase, the concept is the brainchild of Sandra G. Matthews and Michael R. Henderson.
The duo are about to venture on a 2023 roadshow to present Moon to potential licensees across the Middle East, with Dubai one of the target locations, along with cities in KSA, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait.
In total, Moon World Resorts Inc. wants to license four Moon resorts worldwide, one in each of North America, Europe, MENA and Asia.
