Fairmont The Palm in Dubai has confirmed that it remains fully operational after drone debris fell in the vicinity of the hotel on February 28, causing limited damage and injuring four individuals in a nearby parking area.
Hotel officials said the incident occurred amid escalating regional tensions and ongoing drone and missile attacks targeting several Gulf countries. Despite the alarming situation, hotel management emphasized that guest areas were unaffected and operations continued without disruption.
According to a statement from Duncan O’Rourke, Chief Executive Officer of the Premium, Midscale and Economy Division for the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific at Accor, debris from a drone fell in a car park close to the hotel property.
“We confirm that an incident occurred in the vicinity of Fairmont The Palm on February 28, amid the broader regional situation, with debris reported in a nearby car park,” O’Rourke said in a statement.
He explained that the falling debris triggered a small fire in the parking area. The fire was quickly contained by hotel security teams working alongside emergency responders and local authorities.
“Following this, a small fire occurred in the car park and was swiftly contained by hotel security in coordination with Civil Defence and local authorities,” O’Rourke added.
The incident caused limited exterior damage to the site but did not affect guest rooms, public spaces or hotel operations. Officials stressed that safety procedures were immediately activated to ensure the protection of visitors and staff.
Importantly, the hotel confirmed that none of its guests or employees were injured during the incident. However, four individuals who were in the parking area at the time sustained injuries.
“They were transferred to medical facilities for treatment,” O’Rourke said. “Our thoughts are with them and their families.”
Authorities in Dubai also confirmed the event and said emergency response teams were deployed to the Palm Jumeirah area shortly after the debris fell. The site was secured and safety checks were conducted to ensure there were no further risks.
Officials reiterated that the situation was handled quickly and effectively, highlighting the coordination between the hotel’s security teams, Civil Defence personnel and other local authorities.
The drone debris incident comes amid heightened regional tensions following military strikes involving Iran, Israel and the United States. Since February 28, Iran has launched missiles and drones targeting several Gulf states, raising security concerns across the region.
Despite these developments, hotel executives said that operations at Fairmont The Palm have continued normally, with all guest services and facilities functioning as usual.
Omer Acar, Chief Executive Officer of Raffles and Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, also confirmed that the hotel remained open during and after the incident.
“As events continue to evolve, we are closely monitoring developments and taking all necessary precautionary measures in coordination with the relevant authorities,” Acar said in a statement posted on the hotel’s website.
He praised the swift response of emergency services and emphasized that security and safety procedures remain firmly in place at the property.
“We are grateful for their swift response and ongoing support. Hotel teams remain vigilant, with established safety and security protocols fully in place,” Acar said.
In response to the wider regional situation, Accor has also introduced flexible booking policies for travelers whose plans may be affected.
The hospitality group confirmed that guests with reservations made on or before February 28, 2026, can cancel non-refundable bookings and receive a refund or modify their stay without penalty.
The policy applies to stays scheduled through March 15, 2026, and covers hotels located across the Gulf Cooperation Council countries as well as Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel and Pakistan.
Industry observers note that the hotel’s ability to maintain operations highlights the strong emergency preparedness systems commonly implemented in major hospitality properties across Dubai.
Authorities and hotel management have assured visitors that safety remains the top priority while the broader regional situation continues to be closely monitored.
For now, Fairmont The Palm continues to welcome guests, with management expressing confidence in its security measures and coordination with local authorities to ensure the safety of everyone on the property.
