Iraq: The Secretary for Political Planning Affairs of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Republic of Iraq, Hisham Al-Alawi, has recently welcomed the Ambassador of Syria to Iraq, Mr Satam Al-Dandeh, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office in Baghdad. 

The meeting was held between the counterparts of both nations to discuss and research new ways of mutual cooperation and strengthening diplomatic ties.

According to the shared updates, the information regarding the meeting was shared by the official social media handle of Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The update shared by the Ministry read, “Foreign Ministry Secretary for Political Planning Affairs meets Syrian Ambassador to Iraq.”

In addition, “The Ambassador Dr Hisham Al-Alawi, the deputy of the Ministry for Political Planning Affairs, received the Syrian Ambassador to Iraq, Mr Satam Al-Dandeh, in his office at the ministry building in Baghdad,” said the officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, the bilateral strategic relations between the two countries were discussed, and a number of issues of mutual interest were discussed, where His Excellency reaffirmed the desire of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to expand bilateral cooperation to include economic, security and cultural spheres.

The meeting further saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Iraqi and Syrian Diplomatic Institute as a preface for increased coordination and cooperation in the field of research and strategic studies, the Exchange of experiences on political science, building national capacity, and holding seminars and specialized conferences.

The results of the recent meetings in Jeddah and Amman were also discussed in preparation for the upcoming Arab Summit this month and emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and joint coordination in the field of counterterrorism to preserve the security of the two countries and the stability of the region.

For his part, the Syrian Ambassador, Mr Satam Al-Dandeh, expressed his gratitude for the Iraqi government’s positions in support of the Syrian people, the Foreign Ministry’s interest in expanding bilateral cooperation, and praised the role of Iraq overseer and his efforts to solve the crisis in Syria.
