Iraq’s PM reviews oil sector development projects

In the meeting, projects that are being executed by the Ministry of Oil, such as gas investment, oil refinery development, and export systems, were thoroughly examined. Moreover, the strategies of the oil ministry for increasing production and efficiency improvement were also discussed.

The prime minister also underscored the significance of adopting the “integrated projects” approach for gas and oil investment. This approach must include various projects like petrochemical refineries, gas facilities, power generation stations, and chemical and fertilizer industries.

The main goal of this approach is to fulfil the growing demand for these products in the market, especially in the local market.

Prime Minister also reviewed the progress of projects linked to refineries, instructing the relevant terms to speed up the completion. The goal is also to achieve self-sufficiency in petroleum products and fuel, a significant milestone following the successful operation of the Karbala refinery project.

The prime minister also ordered the minister of oil to negotiate and invite construction companies. Those companies which have expertise in the construction of refineries must be invited and encouraged to invest in construction projects in Iraq.

The prime minister emphasized the the importance of finalizing gas projects and expanding investment in Iraqi fields that produce the natural gases. This expansion aimed to provide electricity stations and national fertilizer manufacturing plants with the required gas supply.

Iraqi PM also underlined the essential nature of completing the expansion and maintenance projects for the Iraqi ports as well as storage and distribution facilities across the whole country.

The prime minister also directed his team to closely monitor the plans executed by the Ministry of Oil under short-term and long-term plans. These plans were created to align the local economic and global markets’ demand for Iraqi oil and oil products in the future.

The prime minister added further importance of Iraq’s active and important role in OPEC.
The PM also reaffirmed the importance of following the timelines for project implementation and urged proactive measures to overcome Any administrative and technical challenges that may arise, to ensuring the the successful completion of construction projects.
