Iraq, Middle East, The Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, has recently presided over a meeting with the cabinet ministers to discuss the efforts of relevant agencies in combating drug abuse and its spread. 

Prime Minister has identified a number of aspects, issues and policies in order to combat the drug addiction problems in the country.

According to the shared information, it was stated that the meeting focused on strengthening the technical and operational capacities of authorities in fighting drug abuse, countering trafficking networks, and fostering collaboration among relevant departments within different agencies. In this context, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani has also acknowledged the important role of involved governmental agencies in dealing with such drug abuse issues. 

During the meeting, the Cabinet Ministers and PM Al-Sudani explored and researched different ways to coordinate the efforts of the relevant agencies and the judicial authority to ensure the effective enforcement of laws targeting drug-related activities such as drug dealing, drug abuse, and drug trafficking. 

In addition to this, the reports have also claimed that the incidents related to drug abuse should be getting under the control of the government, for which necessary actions are under progress and given serious consideration.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of enhancing media initiatives to raise awareness and educate the public regarding the dangers of drugs. In this regard, he stated that the country’s young generation could be tackled efficiently by providing necessary information and education related to drug abuse.

The Prime Minister ordered the establishment of drug rehabilitation centres across all governorates. 

Furthermore, he emphasized the need to enhance border cross procedures to prevent illicit activities in this domain. Additionally, the Ministry of Education was urged to actively raise awareness about the dangers of drugs and their detrimental effects on society.

In the end, PM Al-Sudani stressed the importance of ongoing meetings between officials and representatives of agencies involved in drug control. He emphasized that addressing this challenge is a priority for the state, requiring mobilizing all available resources and capabilities.
