Iraq’s Prime Minister meets President of the European Council at Cairo

Prime Minister of Iraq Mohammed S. Al-Sudani Met in Cairo with Charles Michel, the President of the European Council. PM is visiting the Cario, the capital city of Egypt, to attend the Cairo Summit for Peace 2023. Prime Minster also met with many other Dignitaries on the sidelines of the Cairo Peace Summit 2023.

PM is visiting Cairo, the capital city of Egypt, to attend the Cairo Summit for Peace 2023. Prime Minster also met with many other Dignitaries on the sidelines of the Cairo Peace Summit 2023.

The meeting discussed deeply the ongoing and evolving grave situation in the Gaza Strip. The discussion of both leaders focussed on the need to exert all necessary pressure and efforts to end the ongoing attacks and bloodshed in the Gaza Strip. The PM also expressed apprehension that this Israeli-Hamas conflict spread to other parts of the region if immediate action is not taken to stop this strife.

The Prime Minister again reaffirmed Iraq’s unwavering support and complete rejection of the Israeli aggression against the innocent people of Gaza. Moreover, he condemned the ongoing attacks on civilians, citing violations of international humanitarian conventions and laws. As per international law, attacking the hospital, educational facilities or civilian areas is considered a grave violation of international humanitarian law.

The Prime Minister underscored Iraq’s initiative for an immediate end to the aggression and the establishment of secure corridors to supply humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Notably israel imposed compete along Gaza. UNO had also criticised  the Isreal for this move.

Furthermore, he emphasised the strong relations between Iraq and the European Union, guided by the Strategic Partnership Agreement.

On the other hand, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, expressed his full-fledged support for Iraq’s efforts to bridge differences and promote a policy of regional dialogue to bring the normalcy and peace to the region. He also strongly rejected the approach of displacing Palestinians from their homeland, highlighting its perilous long-term consequences and the detrimental effect on finding a permanent solution for the Israel-hamas conflict.
