Pakistan think tank logs 419 killings last year in annual report

The Islamabad-based think-tank Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS) has published a report stating 262 terror attacks took place in Pakistan in 2022, in which a total of 419 were killed. The rise of terror activities is highlighted in the report for the second consecutive year.

The Islamabad-based think-tank Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS) has published a report stating 262 terror attacks took place in Pakistan in 2022, in which a total of 419 were killed. The rise of terror activities is highlighted in the report for the second consecutive year.

As per the reports, a total of 262 terrorist attacks were executed in Pakistan last year by terrorist groups such as Different nationalist insurgents, violent sectarian groups and religiously inspired militant groups.

The incidents included around 14 suicide bombings, which recorded an increase of 27 per cent from the last year. The annual report was titled “Pakistan Security Report 2022”, said PIPS.

Furthermore, an increase of 25 per cent was seen in these terror attacks, which claimed 419 lives of the people, which surpassed the number of killings in 2021. During the incidents, 734 were brutally wounded and injured, said reports.

The information conveyed by PIPS annual report stated that the attacks caused half of the total deaths and fatalities, which were concentrated mostly among the security forces and army personnel of law enforcement agencies. In the reported terrorist attacks, another 234 personnel of security agencies were also injured.

In addition, several terrorist organizations were involved in the attacks known as local Taliban groups, such as Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, “The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K),

groups, which carried out a total of 179 attacks, increased by 128 in the previous year. 250 people were killed, and 262 were injured during the attacks, said PIPS reports.

The nationalist insurgent groups related to the distinct Baloch and Sindhi also executed 79 attacks compared to 77 in 2021, which caused the lives of around 97 lives and injured 259 people.

The PIPS report has also mentioned the data for 2022 as 262 attacks were carried out in the nation, which was increased by 64 per cent, concentrated in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The attacks at Pakhtunkhwa caused the lives of 294 innocent people to increase by 169 from the previous year.

At the same time, Pakistan think tank report also conveyed that the second-highest number of terrorist attacks were recorded in Balochistan in 2022 after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The groups perpetrated around 79 attacks in the area which was recorded at 81 in the last year and caused 106 lives and injured 271.
