Saint Lucia: The Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Ernest Hilaire, has expressed sorrow after the sudden demise of Saint Lucian veteran and Journalist named Guy Ellis. He passed his heartiest condolences to the family and friends of Ellis and stated that “Guy Ellis was an icon of Saint Lucian Journalism.”
As per the reports, the Minister for Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information, Ernest Hilaire, took to his official social media account to share the distressing news with the Saint Lucian people. He extended his heartfelt consolation to loved ones of Ellis through his Facebook post.
In addition, Deputy PM, Hilaire wrote, “It is with great sadness that I have learnt of the sudden passing of the veteran St Lucian Journalist Guy Ellis.” He further added that Ellis started his career as a young reporter with the Voice in May 1962 and spanned his journey in the journalism field for over sixty (60) years.
Additionally, during his serving period, Ellis rises to become the Managing Editor of two newspapers, including the Voice AND Mirror. He was a well-established international news correspondent and an author and historian, said Deputy Prime Minister.
Furthermore, Tourism and Investment Minister Hilaire pointed out the accomplishments and qualities by which Ellis lived his whole life following his heart and his dedication to his work. He extended his condolences by addressing that he was a true journalist with a balanced, independent thought process.
Moreover, it was conveyed that Ellis was a person with analytical integrity and accurate reporting. “He was a skilful editor and writer who always maintained the highest standards of his trade. In this era of fake news and information technology that has created instant journalists, the qualities of Guy Ellis will be sorely missed. He is an example to be emulated by young aspiring St Lucian journalists.” said Deputy PM in his note.
He further concluded his profound empathy and extended strength to his family and noted, “On the part of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Saint Lucia, I extend sincere condolences to his family, friends and the media fraternity of Saint Lucia. May he rest in Peace.”
