Following the beginning of the “The Roundtable” interview, a media representative stated that the Federation’s Prime Minister would deliver special monthly discussions on topics such as national development and growth within the various ministries.

On his part, Prime Minister Terrance Drew delivered his opening remarks and expressed his heartiest gratitude towards the opportunity to engage with the people of St Kitts and Nevis.

He extended his thankfulness to the members of the media for hosting a special interview by which he could address the people on essential updates regarding the country.

In his remarks, PM Drew cited that it is significant to maintain smooth and gap-free communication between the government and the nation’s citizens.

Furthermore, he also mentioned his recent visit to Washington DC, US, to attend the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spring Meetings 2023 as his first-ever appearance.

In this context, PM Drew extended his speech and noted that the spring meetings held in Washington DC were an essential step for him as the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis.

Moreover, he recalled other meetings and visits during his visit to the US, including the annual walk and diaspora meetings.

“I also travelled from Washington DC to Trinidad and Tobago for the Regional Symposium held on the theme of “Violence as the public health issue: the crime challenge” hosted by the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Keith Rowley,” Prime Minister added.

He continued that during the symposium, various Heads of the CARICOM (The Caribbean Community and Common Market) were present to contribute to reducing the violence and crime in the Caribbean region.

He outlined that all the heads discussed various ways and measures to control and reduce the rate of crime and violence in the area and agreed to contribute experiences and resources in such a direction.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister also shed light on the economic aspect of the nation. He mentioned that during the spring meetings with World Bank and IMF, several concepts were discussed to enhance and develop the economy of St Kitts and Nevis by introducing innovations in different sectors.

It was stated that the government of the twin island federation aims to diversify the ways of growing the nation’s economy but not just rely on one particular sector.

“There was a time when we were heavily dependent on one sector, ‘Tourism’ and we sought to develop other sectors to transform our economy in a diversified manner,” he added.

He also expressed that due to the covid-19 pandemic, the tourism sector saw a significant drop as the restrictions were not lifted. He pointed out that the restrictions could have been lifted much earlier, which resulted in the slowest recovery of the nation’s tourism sector.

While addressing the issues, challenges and development aspects of the nation, he noted, “It is always a pleasure engaging with the media. The St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Administration is committed and focused on creating innovative, transformative, and effective change.”

The conference was broadcasted live on different social media platforms for the people to attend, such as PMOSKN and SKNIS’s YouTube channels, along with regional radio stations.
