Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew – The Prime Minister of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, is set to assume the Chairmanship of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) position. The ceremony will be held during the 73rd meeting of the OECS Authority in St Kitts and Nevis on Sunday, June 18 2023, from 5:00 pm onwards at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Auditorium.
According to recent reports, the Prime Minister of the Caribbean Island and chairman of the OECS, Terrance Drew, will be among the speakers during the ceremony on Sunday. It was reported that the sitting would also celebrate the commemoration of the 42nd anniversary of the sub-regional grouping on the same day, which came into effect on the same day in 1981.
In addition, the reports stated that the celebration events regarding the 42nd Anniversary of the OECS have been commemorated in St Kitts and Nevis from June 13-19, 2023.
The events have been held and celebrated under the theme of t ‘Vision. Integration and Sustainability.’ As per the sources, the Prime Minister and incoming Chairman of the OECS, Terrance Drew, will be joining his colleagues in a detailed discussion over several issues and related aspects.
Furthermore, it was also conveyed that the meeting will discuss a range of topics connected to regional integration, renewable energy, and security health matters. Following the opening ceremony, the members and PM Drew will also shed light on how to resolve the issues mentioned.
Additionally, it has been stated that the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is also popularly known as the global intergovernmental organization that promotes regional integration in the Eastern Caribbean.
The idea of regional integration follows the ideology of different neighbouring countries which share physical or cultural characteristics pursuing similar goals and aspirations along with trading, resource exchange and a collective approach to solving problems.
Notably, following the opening ceremony, a flag-raising ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at the Zuliani Roundabout in Frigate Bay at 4:00 pm.
The Prime Minister will attend the ceremony and be the Chairman of OECS, Terrance Drew, along with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Denzil Douglas, Director General of the OECS, Didacus Jules, and Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), Mr Timothy Antoine.
