As per the reports, the news was confirmed yesterday, January 4th, as the New Year Gala event in St Kitts has been globally recognized and has become a norm in the last few years. The previous Gala was hosted by the then Prime Minister of the country, Dr Honourable Timothy Harris.

The sources have conveyed that the demands for the Gala event were so high then, which also greatly impacted this year’s event as the tickets have already sold out in advance for the early January Gala. Previously, all the galas were houseful during the hosting period of PM Harris for seven years in a row, and current PM Dr Terrance Drew is now carrying the trend forwards in St Kitts.

Furthermore, the keynote speaker for the event will be Elizabeth Thompson, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for the region of Barbados, with the duties for Climate Change, Small Island Developing States and the Law of the Sea.

As per the sources, ambassador Elizabeth Thompson has also served her duties as Deputy President of the Senate of Barbados. Thompson was also an ambassador for the United Nations before her appointment as Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations.

She has also played several other roles in the setting of the United Nations, such as special responsibilities as Executive Coordinator of the RIO+20 Conference on Sustainable Development

Furthermore, Elizabeth Thompson also earned a prestigious Award from the United Nations in 2008 by introducing a path-breaking policy regarding climate change and sustainable growth. In addition, she has put a great show of her leadership skills for the First National Green Economy Policy in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Ambassador Thompson also delivered a lecture in many other countries and at institutions such as Harvard, Yale, Colombia, and the Universities of North Carolina, and Waterloo, in addition to the West Indies, on several issues in development, climatic changes, etc.

In the end, the Prime Minister of the Island of St. Kitts and Nevis and the committee expressed immense gratitude to the patrons for the support given. They apologized to those who were unable to purchase tickets for the inconvenience.
