Al Farsi’s preparation has been rigorous. On Thursday, she conducted a final training session before the preliminary rounds of the race. The 100-metre competition at the Paris Olympics will feature 36 sprinters, divided into four rounds with nine competitors in each.

To advance to the first round, sprinters must secure one of the top three positions in their respective heats or record one of the five fastest times overall.

American legend Florence Griffith Joyner holds the world record for the 100-metre race with a remarkable time of 10.49 seconds, achieved in 1988 at the World Championships in Indianapolis.

Meanwhile, Jamaican sprinter Elaine Thompson-Herah set the Olympic record at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a time of 10.61 seconds.

Brigadier General Dr. Mohammed Al Mur, President of the UAE Athletics Federation, expressed confidence in Al Farsi’s performance and the federation’s broader strategy.

“Maryam Al Farsi will participate in the 100-metre sprint at the Paris Olympics following her preparation camp in Egypt. The focus during this camp was on enhancing her technical skills for the Olympic event.”

“We are committed to preparing her thoroughly and providing all necessary support to boost her confidence. Her participation is expected to inspire UAE track and field athletes and drive future success in international competitions,” Dr. Al Mur stated.

Abdulrahman Suleiman, the technical director of the UAE Athletics Federation, also highlighted Al Farsi’s readiness. Suleiman noted that she holds the national record for both junior and youth stages in the 100-metre race, with a time of 13.04 seconds.

“Maryam’s performance in previous competitions has been impressive, and we are confident that her training and dedication will be reflected in her Olympic performance,” Suleiman added.

The UAE Athletics Federation has implemented a comprehensive plan aimed at discovering and nurturing athletic talent, with a focus on developing champions capable of competing at the highest levels.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the country’s presence in international and Olympic athletics.

As the Paris 2024 Olympics approach, the UAE team is hopeful that Al Farsi’s participation will not only bring recognition but also motivate future athletes in the region.

With her extensive preparation and support from the federation, Al Farsi is poised to make a mark in one of the most prestigious athletic events globally.
