The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) of UAE said that the total doses that have been administered so far stand at 24.6 million.

This takes the rate of vaccinations to 248.81 doses per 100 people.

This also stands in line with the plan of the Ministry to give the COVID-19 shots to all members of the society and efforts to achieve acquired immunity resulting from the COVID vaccination, which will further help reduce the number of cases as well as control the virus in the country.

The manufacturing centre of Guangzhou closed itself to most arrivals on Monday, 11 April, as China battles a major increase in COVID-19 cases in its big eastern cities.

Shanghai has also taken the burnt of the surge, with more than 26000 cases announced on Monday, among which just 914 showed symptoms.

The city of almost 26 million people is under a very tight lockdown, with many strict measures and residents are restricted to their homes for almost three weeks.

Guangzhou has not yet announced any such lockdown, although it is a metropolis of 18 million northwest of Hong Kong, which is home to many big companies as well as is the busiest airport in China. Only 27 cases were reported in the city on Monday.

Officials in China’s financial hub of Shanghai said that they would be uplifting the lockdown in some areas from Monday.

Shanghai has organised residential units into three categories related to risk to permit those in areas with fewer cases for a stretch of two weeks to take part in particular activities in their neighbourhoods, said city official Gu Honghui.

“Each district will disclose the specific names of the first batch (of communities) split into the three types, and three subsequent lists will be reported in a timely manner,” he further said.
