Dubai: Hemaya International Centre raises awareness of article 89 of the UAE legislation

The Hemaya International Centre, an affiliate of the General Department of Anti Narcotics Department, based in Dubai, raised awareness regarding article 89 of the UAE legislation, with the aim of consolidating legal knowledge on battling with drugs and psychotropic substances.

It stated, “No criminal proceedings shall be initiated against any abuser of narcotics or psychotropic substances who willingly presents himself or is presented by their partner or one of their family members to the second degree to an addiction treatment unit, the Public Prosecution or the police demanding treatment in the unit. The abuser shall stay in the unit until it takes the decision to discharge him.”

Furthermore, it was also told that “In cases where the abuser is not restricted to the Public Prosecution, the confining entity must accept the Public Prosecutions approval upon the abuser confinement, or release, to the rehabilitation treatment plan. The offenders’ rehab admission should not surpass one year.”

HEMAYA INTERNATIONAL FORUM – 

Hemaya International Forum is regarded as one of the major events organized by the Dubai Police in collaboration with the United Nations. The forum discusses topics related to drugs and their impact on communities and suggests solutions and methods to fight and prevent drug addiction.

Dubai Police is continuously working towards the safety and security of its residents. They have held several meetings to discuss about the best measures so that citizens can have a happy Eid Al Fitr as well as to safeguard citizens from various illegal activities prevailing during the holy month of Ramadan. 

Recently, they issued a warning against the beggars who try to take benefit of the generosity of people during the holy month and although begging is illegal in Dubai, they still people find ways to carry out these activities and rob people indirectly in the city of Dubai.
