A total of 3,897 people were put in temporary shelters in Fujairah and Sharjah and will stay there till their homes are said to be safe for them to go back.

Around 20 hotels in these areas can house an additional of 1,885 people, if required, stated the National Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (Ncema).

Weather officials stated that the rainfall on Wednesday, July 27, contributed to this month being the wettest July in over 30 years.

Over 50 buses have been mobilised during the last 24 hours to bring people out safely. Over 100 volunteers have consistently provided their efforts to help residents and clean up debris and pools of water left due to the heavy rainfall.

Officials ensured people that rescue and clean-up teams are working continuously to help those individuals who are in the most-impacted regions.

No deaths or casualties have been reported.

The Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed ordered the ERC and its centres around the nation to provide all forms of logistical and field support to Emirati teams helping those impacted by the heavy rainfall, in addition to putting the workers of the authority and volunteers on standby.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, Brig Gen Dr Ali Al Tunaiji, asked the public to monitor the NCM weather warnings closely and follow by the alerts sent out by the authorities.

On Thursday, July 28, Crown Prince of Fujairah, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, inspected the regions impacted by the heavy rains in the UAE.

During the inspection tour, he highlighted that efforts would persist and all resources would be allocated to deal with the present situation.

During the past some days, parts of the Emirates have already got over twice the nation’s typical annual rainfall.

The highest rainfall was reported at a National Centre of Meteorology rain gauge at Fujairah Port, where about 234.9mm of rain fell from 10:30 at night on July 25, Monday, to 9:18 am on Thursday.
