UAE announces new traffic rules amid reopening of schools

Some parents are dropping off their children at school campuses, while motorists are factoring in the back-to-school traffic in their office commutes.

Prioritizing the safety of children, the education sector has been working online for the last two years with authorities. Within days, students transitioned into online classrooms and mastered virtual learning.

UAE Government released several alerts for motorists and car drivers to slow down their vehicles near school campuses, prioritizing students’ safety.

Here are the traffic rule fines which one needs to know while driving in the school areas:-
Speeding limits should be between 30kmph to 40kmph around the school areas. The person who exceeds has to pay around Dh300 to Dh3,000 depending on the vehicle’s speed.

Using a mobile phone while driving or attending to calls during driving can cost up to Dh800 fine and four black points.

The driver must be focused while driving. They should not be distracted while moving by talking, combing hair, eating, and many more will be punishable up to Dh800.

Cars must be parked correctly, and Improper parking is punishable with a Dh500 fine. Parking on pavements will be fined up to Dh400.

Children sitting in the front seat who are less than 145 cm and aged less than ten years are also punishable and fined up to Dh400.

Passengers in the cars must be buckled up with car seat belts. If the family fails to do so, they will be fined Dh400.

Driver must check all around you while reversing, especially outside school. Dangerous reversing is punishable with a Dh500 fine and four black points.

Driver must not ignore the stop sign. It means children are picked up or dropped off. The alert requires a complete stop for all vehicles on both sides of the bus within a distance of less than 5 metres. This act will be punishable with a Dh1,000 fine and ten black points.

Not giving way to pedestrians: School zones would have several zebra crossings that help students and teachers cross the roads safely. Not giving priority to pedestrians at such crossroads carries a penalty of Dh500 and six black points.

If the driver is driving in such a manner that threatens anyone’s life, it incurs a Dh2,000 fine, along with 23 black points.
