Kingdom of Bahrain participates in third high-level global ministerial conference on antimicrobial resistance

Her Excellency Dr. Maryam Ibrahim Al-Hajri, Public Health Assistant, chaired the representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain experiencing in the Third High-Level Global Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance; to be held in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, from 24-25 November 2022, including the WF.

Her Excellency Dr. Maryam Ibrahim Al-Hajri, Public Health Assistant, chaired the representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain experiencing in the Third High-Level Global Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance; to be held in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, from 24-25 November 2022, including the WF.

The Kingdom is all of Dr. Gamila Mohammed Al-Salaman, the head of the National Committee For antibiotics and chief doctors of the internal department of government hospitals, and Dr. Fajr Sabah Al-Souloum, Director of Animal Health Department, Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture.

The conference seeks to stimulate interactive dialogue on the importance of a “One Health” process to tackling the antimicrobial resistance epidemic, hence the conference’s slogan came to be “Antimicrobial Resistance: From Policy to Unified Health Procedures.”

The conference aims to accelerate the pace of dealing with antimicrobial resistance at the national, provincial and multinational levels and to promote international cooperation.

The conference is a follow-up to the success of the previous ministerial conferences held in the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 2014 and 2019.

It aims to promote the importance of political commitment to the “One Health” approach to countering the antimicrobial resistance epidemic, highlighting the environmental role in the spread of microorganism resistance and monitoring of both antibic resistance and antibic use in the three domains (Human, animal and environment), exchange of experiences and successful experiments in implementing the “one government” approach.

One Health to mitigate the risk of antibacterial resistance, and find opportunities for cooperation and partnership between countries and international organizations to address antibacterial resistance in the context of Sustainable Development Goals.

This is the first time that countries have discussed antibiotic consumption indicators within the framework of unified health as a proponent and director in a concluding statement of this global conference organized by the Sultanate of Oman.

One of the expected output of the conference is a Muscat declaration on accelerating “One Health” procedures on antimicrobial resistance to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, recommendation on the creation of a global framework for antimicrobic resistance monitoring system that encompasses all aspects of one health, and insurance Antimicrobial resistance included in UN Cooperation for Sustainable Development
